Virtual Patch Collection - Miscellaneous Patches

Historic Trails

The C&O Canal Historic Trail runs 184 miles from Cumberland, MD, to Georgetown in Washington, DC. Segments are earned for doing different parts of the trail.

The Gettysburg Trail winds around the battlefield in two sections. The basic patch is earned by visiting the battlefield and the visitor center. The Johnny Reb (grey) segment is for a four-mile trail around Cemetery Hill, covering part of the second day's fighting. The Billy Yank (blue) segment is a nine-mile trail along Seminary Ridge and the Round Tops, covering the area fought over on the second and third days.

Joint patches - BSA and other organizations

I have no idea where "Rivergate" is, or why the J.C. Penney department store issued this patch.

This patch was distributed at the 1981 Jamboree at the Navy exhibit

Many Rotarians are Scouters - and vice versa.

Other Patches

"Green Bar Bill" Hillcourt was a mainstay of BSA publications for many decades. He wrote the first Patrol Leaders Handbook in the 1940's, several editions of the Boy Scout Handbook, and a monthly column in Boys Life magazine. Toward the end of his life he lived near Syracuse, and this large back patch was issued to commemorate his life after he died in 1992.

Scouter Magazine was a short-lived independent magazine for Scout leaders. It was published for about five years in the mid- to late-1990's before going out of business. Charter subscribers were sent this patch.

Lots of Scouts and Scouters collect patches - your Webmaster is no exception. So, I've put up a Virtual Patch Collection for the district. It's by no means exhaustive, but it's what I've got. If you felt like contributing pictures of some patches we don't yet have in the collection, please e-mail them to Mike Brown at wb2jwd@gmail.com - the scans should be between 450-600 pixels in width and height(no multi-megabyte scans, please, they crash my e-mail program) and in JPG or PNG format if possible. Of course, if you wanted to give me the actual patches, I won't insult you by refusing...
