Taughannock District
February 9, 2013 Mall Show
"Scouting on Land, Sea and Air"

Our 2013 District Mall Show was well attended, despite a Nor'easter the night before which left as much as a foot of snow on the ground in some parts of the district. A dozen units were at the Shops at Ithaca Mall bright and early on Saturday, February 9th, as well as a number of District and Council committees and organizations and a giant, computerized Pinewood Derby track on which more than fifty Cubs raced their cars.

One giant parking lot, where Pinewood Derby cars waited their turn...

... to roll down the computerized track.

Cubs, Scouts and Sea Scouts led the Pledge of Alliegence at the opening ceremony.

Pack 46 built bridges from straws and pen caps, then tested them to destruction - complete with egg passengers.

The Order of the Arrow had a table.

Pack 24's Velcro wall let Cubs jump on a trampoline, and...

...SPLAT...  up on the wall.

Pack 55 showed skins and skulls in a Nature exhibit.

Troop 4's Scouts turned muddy water to pure, with the latest in backpacking technology.

Sea Scout Ship 25 let visitors learn seafaring knots.

Aviation Explorer Post 62 had pictures of, and from, airplanes, and some aero charts.

Troop 29 demonstrated water purification technology, firebuilding and, at right, signaled for aircraft to land... in the Cornell Store?

Troop 34 had a hot air balloon...

...and flung jelly beans with a model trebuchet.

Troop 55 did a quiz to find out if visitors were as smart as Boy Scouts.

Troop 2 built a pioneering gateway.

Troop 81 had a display of Emergency Preparedness.

Troop 94 raced CO2-powered "Blast Cars"

Displays by National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
and the Camp Barton Alumni Association.

The Taughannock District table had a circulating slide show and books, and handed out information on Cub Packs and Scout Troops in the District. Behind the District table is the Duty to God Committee's display.
